Presenter: Carl R. Douglass, DI Labs
Carl has extensive experience in product development. The DI Labs environment of state-of-the-art 3D printing technologies has fueled his creativity and inspired him to push boundaries in every aspect of the company. He helps all types of companies accelerate their innovation but also practices what he preaches by leading the DI Labs direct-to-consumer brand Threedom. It’s a cutting-edge business model that offers mass personalization of consumer products fueled by the powerful capabilities of industrial 3D printing.
Before entering the dark side as an entrepreneur, Carl played various technical roles in the plastics industry, involving injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding, rotational molding, and extrusion. He most recently worked as an engineering executive for a national plastics manufacturer. Carl has nearly a dozen patents ranging from product designs to utility patents for products, manufacturing processes, and software. He has a Mechanical Engineering degree from Ohio Northern University, is a licensed Professional Engineer and has an MBA from the U of M Carlson School of Business.
Carl is a passionate problem solver and, together with his two brothers, has created a unique culture at DI Labs based on “solutionology.” He uses his business as a force for good and strives to make a positive impact for employees, clients, and the industry he serves. For the few minutes Carl isn’t working, you can find him in the shop tinkering with electronics or automotive projects or on the water during the summer months.
